Our thermally pre-stressed toughened safety glass (ESG) offers nearly unlimited design options thanks to its increased resistance to impact and to bending as well as to thermal stress.
First, the glass is cut to measure and all further required finishing steps – as for example drilling, glass cut-outs, edge processing and printing – are realised. The glass, then, goes through the so-called pre-stressing process. Subsequently, it is heated up until it softens and is then blown off with cooling air – the surface cooling down faster than the core. As a result of this process, different stress zones are generated giving the glass high shock strength. It is typical of toughened safety glass that in case of breakage it disintegrates into many loose blunt-edged crumbs, thus reducing considerably the risk of injury compared to glass that is not pre-stressed.
